Thurmond/Gazes Biomedical Research Mechanical Systems

This project provided modifications to a 203,800 square foot, 8-story existing research facility. New chillers, pumps, normal and emergency power systems, cooling towers and tower water pumps, air handlers, and modifications to the 7th and 8th-floor ductwork and VAV systems were included in the scope of work.

Extensive demolition and renovation were required to provide redundancy per AAALAC regulations for the animal floors. This work included a rework of existing piping, electrical equipment, and other related modifications were required to provide base mechanical and electrical support for the building and animal facility.

The project included the addition of screen walls around the roof perimeter to mask the new roof-mounted equipment. The existing building lightning protection system was modified to suit the new roof profile.
